    Job Details Title: Staff Attorney Location: Salt Lake City, UT Salary Type: Annual Desired Years Experience: 3+ Position Summary: Under the direction of the companys general counsel, the staff attorney will be primarily responsible for drafting and reviewing commercial construction contracts with owners, subcontractors, and suppliers. As needed, the staff attorney will assist the companys general counsel with any litigation matters or other similar claims it may have. * Draft and/or revise owner agreements and subcontracts from draft through proposed revisions, approvals, and final execution to identify language that exposes the company to unreasonable or unnecessary risk. * Negotiate with counter parties the reasoning behind adding, removing, or maintaining certain language. * Assess and identify the need for review and other involvement by Director of Legal Affairs and/or outside counsel. * Complete legal review/contract term summary for all projects and reviews contract details with project team. * Fields initial inquiries from project directors, project managers, or other project team members regarding contracting, procedures, risks, and contract status. * Assists with the development and maintenance of library of commonly used contract formats, special terms and conditions, and other client-specific requirements. * Maintain electronic and physical records with respect to all legal matters. * Oversee ordering and tracking bonds and insurance certificates for owner contracts. * Log and track all subcontract bonds and insurance. * Performs related duties as assigned, including administrative tasks for the legal department.? EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * J.D. and membership in good standing with the Utah State Bar. * At least 3+ years experience reviewing, negotiating, and drafting commercial construction contracts. * Strong understanding of construction industry standards as it relates to contract terms and conditions. * High working knowledge of construction industry jargon is a plus. * Knowledge of standard AIA contracts is preferred, including the A101, A133, A134, and A201. * Ability to negotiate legal matters over the phone with counterparties and present clear and strong arguments, in a collaborative way, for the Companys legal position. * Understanding of insurance, including reviewing insurance policies is preferred, but not required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS * Sharp analytical skills relative to contract information and related matters, including insurance coverages and policies * Excellent organizational skills * Impeccable attention to detail * Strong communication skills (oral and in writing) * Excellent interpersonal skills * Proficiency with computers, including strong word processing skills within Microsoft Word and functional understanding of Microsoft Excel.
