    MAJOR FUNCTION: The Director of Nursing Programs will provide leadership and coordination of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program and the Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) Program.  The Director facilitates and promotes student learning within each of the nursing programs through sound administrative practices and creates an environment that promotes academic rigor, fosters instructional innovation, and provides all-inclusive support services to students and faculty. This position will work closely with faculty, staff, and students as well as health care providers, community partners, and other educational institutions. Will ensure that the nursing programs complies with all state/federal regulations.  Plan and coordinate the accreditation process for both the AS and BS nursing programs, by preparing self-studies and conducting on-going program outcomes assessments.  Plan and coordinate all programs in the department to include ensuring that adjunct faculty are appropriately certified and contracted.  Serves as team leader for full time faculty.  Coordinate and facilitate student orientation and interest meetings. This position will assist with the development of program curriculum and revises as appropriate. Guides the revision and development of course outlines, and monitors curriculum of all programs under the rules and regulations of the nursing accrediting agency.  Assists with departmental staffing by participating in interviewing candidates, making hiring recommendation for staffing to the administration, evaluating part-time instructors. This position assists in the selection, organization, and coordination of clinical experiences for students by evaluating facilities for clinical placement of students. Preparing clinical schedules, and negotiates clinical placements in the planning sessions of all the learning institution and clinical facilities.  Prepares and activates a formal agreement with each of the health agencies used as clinical sites.  Develops plans for the recruitment of students by working with marketing and communications to publicize and disseminate information about the nursing programs.  Review student applications and assists in the selection of student to be admitted to the nursing programs.  Assists the advising specialist to counsel prospective students. Teaches courses in the nursing programs as required.  Conducts regularly scheduled Advisory Committee meeting, and implements the recommendation of the Dean. This position will foster cooperation and a team approach among all nursing faculty members by modeling professional behavior, innovative leadership, and standards of practice. Will maintain responsibility for equipment and supplies for the department and perform other duties as required.  

    MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:  A Master’s degree in a discipline that includes coursework in nursing, education, teaching, curriculum development, and administration; and must have five years of professional experience in clinical nursing, nursing administration, or nursing education, with at least two years of experience related to teaching adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development and evaluation.  

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of theories, practices, and current trends in related field of health care profession and health care education;  knowledge of techniques utilized in administering or instructing a health care program;  knowledge of local, state and national laws relating to health care programs; knowledge of the needs of local employers and ability to lead development of courses and programs to meet employer needs; knowledge of distance learning/hybrid and other current trends in course delivery; skill in use of Microsoft Office, applicable division software, and institutional communication, assessment, and web tools; skill in developing and managing personnel, expense, and capital budgets; ability to provide effective leadership in the division and the college; ability to promote a student centered learning environment; ability to serve as a liaison between faculty and staff by providing input to academic administration in the development of academic programs, policies, and procedures; ability to work collaboratively with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and academic leaders on campus and throughout the State; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, staff, and the community; ability to assess, implement and evaluate the needs for health care educational programs in the community and the state; ability to assist in fund-raising and friend-raising and grant development; ability to evaluate the effectiveness of health care programs; ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse student population; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and ability to establish and maintain detailed records and reports relating to the health care programs.
