Job Description
We’re looking for a Vice President of Runtime Platform and Architecture to join Procore’s Cloud Platform Engineering division. In this role, you’ll drive the design, architecture, implementation and operation of Procore’s Cloud Runtime Platform.
As a Vice President of Runtime Platform and Architecture , your role will be to utilize your technical expertise and leadership skills to create a Platform-as-a-Service foundation that is distributed geographically and can be used by various product teams. This will involve developing and implementing solutions for various runtime aspects, such as computing, networking, security, streaming, production observability, and CI/CD pipelines.
To be successful in this role, you’re passionate about building highly scalable, resilient, distributed systems, event-driven architecture patterns, maintainable platform capabilities, and providing an efficient developer experience with a strong bias for action and outcomes. This position will be located at our Austin, TX office. We’re looking for someone to join our team immediately.
What you’ll do:
Develop and execute Procore’s Platform as a Service strategy; Ensure alignment with overall business goals, including geo-expansion, resilience, and cost optimization.
Design, build, and operate the platform components and services leveraged by Procore’s development teams.
Operate and optimize the CI/CD framework used by Procore’s development teams.
Be a forward looking thought leader who can influence and drive Procore’s overall software architecture strategy.
Collaborate with engineers and other architects to influence the architecture of our platform services, developer pipelines, and overall product solutions.
Collaborate with Security and Legal to ensure our systems are appropriately supported and comply with corporate and regulatory policies.
Collaborate with product management and other business stakeholders to understand and refine the requirements that drive the architecture of our production infrastructure.
Manage and optimize cloud, license, vendor, and other costs associated with Procore’s Runtime Platform.
Lead by example, create exemplars, model the behaviors representative of technical leadership and best practices for other engineers, and forge and continuously improve design patterns and best practices with customer centricity in mind.
Create high-level product specifications and design documents; provide engineering with architectural blueprints to execute, troubleshoot, and resolve issues hands-on with code/design.
Be capable of illuminating the "art of the possible.”
What we’re looking for:
15+ years of experience designing, building, and operating highly available software systems
10+ years of experience serving as a software architect for enterprise-scale systems.
10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating highly available cloud-based systems
Strategic thought leader owning holistic platform architecture solutions for both functional and non-functional requirements
Keen ability to drive by influence rather than authority via a deep knowledge of specific areas and a broad view of most subjects like product vision, best practices, open standards, etc.
Expertise with with best of breed infrastructure solutions, including proven experience with Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform cloud services
Expertise with computing and processing systems like Kubernetes
Expertise with streaming technologies like Kafka, Flink, Spark, Airflow
Experience with diverse data storage technologies like PostgreSQL, GraphDB, NoSQL DB, Databricks, etc.
Current on new industry trends, design patterns, and design solutions for complex systems to meet ambiguous business needs
Experience with vendor relations, MSA, SoWs, and contracts.
