Job Description

We’re looking for a STAFF SITE RELIABILITY ENGINEER focused on cost optimization to join Procore’s Cloud Platform Observability team. In this role, you'll maintain, optimize, and enhance the data pipeline that supports all of Procore’s service analytics.

As a STAFF SITE RELIABILITY ENGINEER, focused on cost optimization, you’ll work with engineers from the Observability team to ensure all telemetry metrics within the Procore ecosystem are captured, sent to various tools, and appropriately modeled. You’ll use your data visualization and leadership skills to model SAAS efficiency, pre-compute/pre-storage purchase efficiency, and new data center deployment costs. This position reports to our Senior Engineering Manager, Observability, and will be based in any of our US offices or remotely in the US. We’re looking for someone to join us immediately.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

• Provide technical efforts around building a robust and scalable analytical data pipeline to support billions of events      
• Be responsible for the service analytics pipeline’s end-to-end functionality, from receiving the events from sources to the tools landing the events into the various sinks we use for analysis (DataDog, SumoLogic, Tableau, New relic Snowflake) to the modelization of the analytics event data sets   
• Help identify and propose solutions for technical and organizational gaps in our analytics pipeline by running proof of concepts and experiments working with Observability Engineers and Architects on implementation
• Partner with teams on modeling and analysis problems including transforming problem statements into analysis problems, working through data modeling and engineering, analyzing, and communicating results
• Participate in the evolution of Observability and cost-related data at Procore
• Create and share best practices for the development and deployment of data engineering solutions

Qualifications

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, or comparable work experience
• 8+ years of industry experience as an SRE or in a cost-related role     
• Ability to prioritize between good and great outcomes, striving to provide Procore leadership with insightful and qualitative data that empowers them to build cutting-edge tools 
• Understanding of the tradeoffs between short-term and long-term goals and balancing immediate needs with strategic initiatives
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
• Strong oral and written communication skills
