    Environmental, Health Safety and Sustainability Intern

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Environmental, Health and Safety Intern role is an apprenticeship as an EH&S Generalist to gain experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.  The internships generally go three to six months in duration.  As an Intern you will learn the basic functions of the EH&S professional in an industrial setting and will be exposed to different aspects of the manufacturing environment through direct hands on experience at one of our manufacturing locations.  Additional responsibilities may include basic calculations, participating in cross functional teams, setting up and performing tests and monitoring, and many other related EHS activities.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Aids in measuring, testing, and tabulating data concerning EHS metrics and record keeping.
    • Conducts testing and monitoring as needed, reports on results, and documents findings.
    • Recommends revisions and updates for standard operating procedures and work instructions as needed.
    • Completes work according to industry standard and regulatory requirement.
    • Analyzes data in the form of leading indicators, lagging indicators, and employee feedback and concerns to identify trends and developing risks.
    • Coordinate with other plant personnel at all levels to help address safety considerations.
    • Assists with the improvement and development of EHS documentation, including procedures, forms, and checklists.
    • Assists in the development, assessment and improvement of health and safety training.
    • Updates User Records in EHS Data Management and Learning Management Systems.
    • Assist Sites in completing Functional Capacity Evaluations (i.e. Lifting, Pushing, Carrying Assessments)
    • Monitors the implementation of EHS requirements, including training records and audit/inspection records
    • Assists in the development of topic specific EH&S Toolbox Talks based on current incident and audit trends.
    • Ability to apply critical thinking methods: define problems, collect and interpret relevant data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and implement countermeasures.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures and regulations.
    • Ability to research, prepare, and format training and other written communications.
    • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
    • Ability to track and collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelors Degree Program or higher pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or other related field.
    • Must have at least 2 years of completed course work; ideally a Junior or Senior Student who is preparing to enter the workforce upon graduation.
    • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database / recordkeeping applications.
    • Basic knowledge and/or understanding of federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to safety, health, and environmental programs.
    • Prior experience developing written EH&S policy is desired.
    • Prior experience with recordkeeping or data management is desired.
    • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. Chromalox will not offer sponsorship for this position.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Work is in a manufacturing facility and may include time both in office and on the plant floor. Occasional work outdoors at the plant location may be required.

    • Safety glasses and Steel toe / safety toe shoes must be worn on the production floor.
    • May work at different workstations as required or shift from one work cell to another during the work process.

    HOURS OF WORK

    Generally 40 hours per week Monday – Friday.  Overtime may be required as determined by business needs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Utilize the RRD systems to ensure quality and accuracy of warehousing activities.
    • Directs the proper handling of all products received and shipped ensuring that support systems reflects accurate and timely goods movement.
    • Analyzes inbound and outbound product activity and productivity of manpower and equipment to insure a cost efficient operation and a high standard of service to customers.
    • Ensures inventory integrity through timely processing of data and accuracy of cycle counting procedures. Supervises physical inventory counts as scheduled.
    • Supervises the organization of picking locations. Insures maximum efficiency of space utilization.
    • Oversees the operation of the warehouse facilities and ensures it is maintained in a clean and energy efficient manner providing a safe work environment.
    • Supervises and schedules all warehouse personnel. Responsibilities include interviewing candidates, insuring that all employees receive appropriate training, observing employee performance, offering feedback and counseling.
    • Responsible for annual performance evaluations.
    • Recommends ways of increasing productivity and improving quality.
    • Ensures compliance with all corporate warehousing safety policies and procedures and with all departments of labor and other governmental agencies.
    • Directs the scheduling and routing of transportation activities to satisfy outbound delivery requirements, maintaining a cost per pound of .09 cents or less (including product training and inbound vendor requirements),
    • Ensures proper maintenance of material handling and shipping equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, shrink wrap machine, strapping machine, etc.) by monitoring preventative maintenance schedules and service contracts.
