    Engineering Intern – Manufacturing Engineering

    Job Summary

    We are looking for talented Manufacturing Engineer Interns to work under the supervision of the Facilities Manager to support manufacturing and facilities projects. 

    Essential Functions

    • Assist in the development and evaluation of processes to improve manufacturing methods within the manufacturing plant
    • Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to design.
    • Applies engineering principles to design, modify, or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment or processes.
    • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capacities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
    • Creates drawings in developing product routings and updating the plant layout accordingly.
    • Completes work according to standard engineering principles and practices.
    • Conducts time studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products, equipment, machines, associated and subsystems components, and structures associated with the manufacturing process.
    • Uses computer-assisted engineering software and equipment. (ie AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.)
    • Studies and records time, motion, methods, and speed involved in performance of maintenance, production, and other worker operations to establish standard production rate and to improve efficiency.
    • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
    • Recommend revisions of methods of operation and material handling, alteration of equipment layout, and other changes to increase production

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Support of company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.
    • Maintenance of a clean and orderly work area.

    Qualifications

    • Current student or recent graduate of Engineering or related technical field with relevant experience and/or training preferred.
    • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software.
    • AutoCAD experience with Solid Modeling and 3D design experience.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering proposals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

     

     

     

     

    Certifications / Training:  AutoCAD, Solid Modeling and 3D design preferred

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is designated to an office location and occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and exposed to dust, heat and sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable when on the production floor. 

    May require exposure to hazardous equipment or physical hazards; requires wearing protective and/or safety equipment when on the production floor.  Safety glasses with side shields and steel-toe shoes are required in all areas of the production floor. 

    May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shift from one work cell to another during the work process.  Work requires meeting performance deadlines and being exact or highly accurate; requires face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams and working with others in a group or team.

    Normal Work Schedule:  The hours and days of work are established at the direction of management and may be flexible to meet the needs of the student schedule.

    Hours of Work:  Generally between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Monday – Friday)

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Prepare PDF documents for variable data processing
    • Format Excel mail files for merging
    • Use established guidelines to create custom documents on an as-needed basis
    • Ensure all variable print files delivered on-time; expedite operations that delay or alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. Communicate  with management and CSR’s when critical issues arise.
    • Format documents for FTP uploads
    • Proofreading and monitoring jobs for errors and/or “common sense” mistakes to eliminate rework

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Previous Experience with data merging
    • Intermediate to advanced skills in InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel
    • Basic working knowledge of graphic design and  file formatting
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to overcome technical and non-technical challenges
    • Ability to remain flexible under pressure; reprioritizing projects as needed
    • Highly organized, cognizant of deadlines, and attentive to detail
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (primarily Photoshop, InDesign & Illustrator)
    • Any commercial print or mailroom experience
    • Knowledge of BCC software is a plus
