    Job Summary

    The Engineering Manager is responsible for Design Engineering and the Engineering Lab.  Sets expectations for and leads productivity and cycle time improvement programs ultimately resulting in improved customer experience.  Serves as a member of the Plant Staff Management team and provides engineering support for other functional departments. 

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    • Plans and establishes engineering goals and metrics and evaluates performance against targets.
    • Ensures compliance of company policies, procedures, and objectives.
    • Administers personnel functions including recruiting, hiring, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, selection and placement of personnel, performance evaluations, and salary adjustments.
    • Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.
    • Develop and implement new department policies and procedures as required.
    • Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, and improve production techniques.
    • Support New Product Development through reviews, technical support, and project management.
    • Manages Engineering Department budget.
    • Initiates cost reduction proposals from other sources, compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for action, and checks on results obtained.
    • Supports company and department 5S programs.
    • Support production departments and customer service through failure analysis and problem solving.
    • Establish and/or support training activities for the department or individual engineers.
    • Works on or serves as a resource on projects requiring advanced knowledge or a particular field of specialization.
    • Supports the development and implementation of Lean Tools; manages development of material selection standards and analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field with five or more years related experience and/or training. Master’s degree in technical discipline or business management is preferred.
    • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects and have experience in a product development environment.
    • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software.
    • Familiarity with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Solid Modeling (3D) software; understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods and software preferred.
    • Familiar with manufacturing processes such as heavy equipment manufacturing, welding technology, control panel, materials technology, manufacturing methods technology.
    • Pressure vessel design and manufacturing experience with knowledge or experience with ASME (Section VIII & Section I), PED, ATEX, NEC, NACE, ANSI, and TEMA a plus.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret product or customer specifications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding and problem solving techniques to identify root cause and direct corrective action.
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, and fundamental plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
