    POSITION DETAILS:

    Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

     

    SIPP in partnership with the Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monument are seeking an intern who will assist in providing interpretive and educational programming to visitors in the parks, in classrooms, and at community events. The selected candidate will help to increase Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monument’s capacity for hosting field trips, provide in-class visits, and will participate in various state-wide events. More specifically, the chosen candidate will create original interpretive programming at Montezuma Well focused on both natural and cultural resources. The candidate will also assist park staff with classroom visits, field trips and will assist with creating a Junior Ranger program at Montezuma Well. The intention behind public education is focused in order to increase stewardship rates among visitors and students. Lastly, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to mitigate invasive species during field trips with partner schools focused on ecology and restoring riparian habitats.

     

    The interpretive division of the National Park Service provides visitors with opportunities for them to create meaningful connections in our parks.  It is our goal at Montezuma Castle National Monument that we provide exemplary customer service to each visitor by creating engaging talks, tours, and programs for visitors to enjoy.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    • Interpretation:
      • Develop original interpretive content
      • Create social media content
      • Provide talks, tours or special events at least 3 times a week.
      • Assist with developing Junior Ranger material
    • Education:
      • Assist rangers with classroom activities
      • Assist with field trips in the parks
    • Community Outreach:
      • Provide interpretation to the public at annual events
      • Develop a hands-on activity to present
      • Answer questions and hand out resources

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Public speaking skills

    • Comfort in having conversations with a wide variety of visitors of different ages, abilities, backgrounds, and nationalities.

    • US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States

    • Must undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection

    • Must possess a valid Social Security Card and Drivers License

    • Required to submit a mid-term and final report

     

     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • An interest in biology, archaeology, environmental education, or history is beneficial.
    • Multilingual
