    This description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.  It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications, which may be required of employees assigned to this job classification.

    Class B Mechanics should have experience in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining all mechanical portions of the BHS (Baggage Handling System). The Class B Mechanic must be able to work autonomously or with a work crew and know how to proficiently replace any mechanical device, structural portion or support involved with the efficient, safe operation of the BHS.  Class B Mechanics should be familiar with 3-phase 480v connections; however, they will only be responsible to work with voltages below 120v.  Class B Mechanics must be able to understand and work on single phase 110v and lesser voltage connections under the oversight and approval of the Class A Mechanic

    Required Skills

     

    Bend, stoop, and crawl to work in tight, restricted areas. Push, pull, lift, parts and components weighing up to 45 pounds in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, or installation of these parts and components from a sitting, standing, bending, squatting, knelling or reaching overhead positions.

     

    Lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds.

     

    Must be able to climb 10 – 25 ft. in height on ladders and perform duties while working on ladders.

     

    Must have good coordination and good balance for working on top of the boarding bridges up to 25-30 ft. above ground.

     

    Must be able to stand 60 – 75% during an 8-hour shift.

     

    Must be able to operate the controls for a forklift or man lift (authorized employees only) in congested area.

     

    Must be able to drive jet bridges and/or operate conveyor systems (if applicable).

     

    Drive vehicles weighing up to 3 tons on selected assignments in congested areas requiring good depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.

     

    Must have good eyesight or prescription glasses to read small print on parts and schematics.

     

    Work with color-coded wiring and other components which requires the ability to differentiate colors to include but not limited to red, green, yellow, blue, black, brown, white, and orange.

     

    Operate a variety of tools, including power tools, in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, and installing parts and components while reaching, twisting, turning, and gripping.

     

    Must be able to read and understand electrical schematic.

     

    Work in a high noise-level environment and tolerates dust and jet fumes. (Dust masks and earplugs are provided).

     

    Read and interpret printed or computerized maintenance manuals. Write and type legibly to complete forms/paperwork as required.

     

    Must be able to communicate – verbal and written – in English and be understood by others.

     

    Be familiar with computers and Microsoft based operating systems.

     

    Must be able to regulate own work with little supervision and accomplish tasks on own.

     

    Employee’s personal hand tools are required

     

    Must own and operate electrical multi-meter.

     

    Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays i.e. Friday Saturday, Sunday and days off.  

     

    Required Experience

    Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED preferred.  Valid state driver’s license.  Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (i.e. Friday, Saturday and Sunday), holidays, and days off. Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language.
