      CAREER PATHWAY INSTRUCTOR (OPS)

    HIRING RANGE:   $22.00 – $25.00 per hour (Positions are based on the availability of funding)

    HOURS: Part time - TBD, late afternoons and early evenings

    BACKGROUND: Tallahassee Community College’s Division of Workforce Development is currently looking for a qualified part-time instructor for our Pathways to Career Opportunities grant program. 

    MAJOR FUNCTION:  General responsibilities include: teach engaging lessons with instructional strategies that meet program goals, create and submit lesson plans according to Florida Adult Education Curriculum Frameworks, incorporate contextualized instruction using occupational information and data specific to the electrical industry, maintain accurate class rosters, submit attendance records on a timely basis, manage multi-level classes, report student withdrawals, and participate in ongoing professional development. Incorporate a work readiness curriculum that prepares the students for entry into an apprenticeship program or employment. The Career Pathways Instructor will be responsible for achieving student outcomes to meet program goals. The incumbent must adhere to all College policies and procedures and division and departmental procedures. 

    MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, from an accredited institution and one (1) year of relevant experience teaching and/or tutoring related skills such as reading, writing, language arts, math, science, social studies, digital literacy, career and education planning, and test-taking skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry. 

    SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Ability to deliver and instruct the adult education content areas. Skilled in teaching students and facilitating a rich learning environment for diverse populations. A sincere desire to help students maximize their academic and personal potential. Ability to use a variety of strategies that meet varying abilities of adult students, including differentiated instruction. Ability to make decisions concerning student instruction. Knowledge of adult learning theory and practice. Ability to create engaging lesson plans and activities using best practices. Knowledge of the adult education content areas. Ability to communicate to adult students in an effective manner. Knowledge of adult student characteristics. Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and its implications for the department. General knowledge of Microsoft Office, including OneDrive and SharePoint. Ability to work independently or as a part of a team, and make independent decisions. Ability to work and communicate with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Ability to maintain organized and accurate records. Ability to be self-motivated, self-directed and creative. Excellent human relationship skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to critically assess situations and make sound judgments. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to communicate effective, verbally and in writing, to other key stakeholders. Ability to interact with other staff appropriately. 

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Prepare instructional material from the curriculum that is to be covered in class and review weekly lessons, quizzes, tests and labs and come prepared to teach on time. Strives to motivate students and facilitate learning by creating a positive environment.
    • Designs and ensures that the required minimum laboratory exercises are conducted each semester.
    • Uses instructional media such as audio-visual (video) and hands on equipment
    • Administers quizzes, test, gives homework and reading assignments to meet at least the minimum requirements set forth by Instructor and Student Policy. Conducts each training session in accordance with the Department of Labor Standards including class time duration, breaks, curriculum, attendance and other requirements.
    • Notifies the Workforce Development Coordinator, giving as much advance notice as possible when they must be absent to allow time for a substitute instructor.
    • Secures building using security equipment, keys and other security devices when assigned.
    • Stress importance of safety and instruct on all facets of required safety regulations and best practices.
    • Identify and submit in writing any discrepancies found in the curriculum to the Program Coordinator
    • Assure that grades and attendance are recorded and are issued to the Workforce Development Coordinator in accordance with Apprenticeship and Instructor/ Policies and Procedures.
    • Counsel and advise apprentices regarding use of absences, poor classroom performance and other issues pertinent to their success in the apprenticeship program.
    • Oversee the security and safety of apprentices in the classroom and laboratory.
    • Attend meetings as identified.
    • Adheres to and enforces all policies and rules set forth by the Apprenticeship and Instructor/ Policies and Procedures.
