    • NATURE OF WORK: This is technical work, providing direct technical support to others using computer equipment for office applications, including desktop configurations; performing hardware and software installation and maintenance of existing database software, spreadsheets, and other programs to best meet end user need, Incumbents in this classification install and configure equipment and software, perform maintenance on the equipment, and troubleshoot problems to resolve hardware/software issues.

    • EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (The following duties are typical for this classification. However, any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties which may be performed.)

      • Serves as the System Administrator in the absence of the IT Manager
      • Responds to employee questions in person and via phone on all company supported applications.
      • Determines source of computer problems (hardware, software, user access, etc.).
      • Serves as liaison between staff and the technology department to resolve issues.
      • Manages backup, security, and user help systems.
      • Consults with users to assess computing needs and system requirements.
      • Tests programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
      • Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
      • Installs and tests of new products and improvements to computer systems, such as the installation of new databases.
      • Trains users and answer questions.
      • Develops data model describing data elements and how they are used, following procedures and using pen, template or computer software.
      • Provides staff and users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as malfunctions and program problems.
      • Tests, maintains, and monitors computer programs and systems, including coordinating the installation of computer programs and systems.
      • Coordinates and links the computer systems within the organization to increase compatibility so information can be shared.
      • Expands or modifies system, as required, to serve new purposes or improve work flow.
      • Determines computer software or hardware needed to set up or alter system.
      • Diagnoses hardware and software problems, and replaces defective components.
      • Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations.
      • Maintains and administers computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
      • Plans, coordinates, and implements network security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware.
      • Monitors the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
      • Performs routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records.
      • Configures, and tests computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.
      • Recommends changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
      • Confers with network users about how to solve existing system problems.
      • Monitors network performance in order to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
      • Evaluates and resolves user problems; identifies and obtains appropriate resources for the resolution of complex problems; corrects routine problems by making minor repairs to computer equipment and/or entering specialized commands or data into systems; contacts appropriate resources for additional assistance.
      • Instructs computer system users in the use of computer equipment and of computer applications; answers questions and assists in resolving problems regarding the methods and procedures for using computer applications.
      • Coordinates installation of new hardware/software; installs, tests, and monitors the operation of computer hardware and software; configures hardware and software to meet departments’ needs.
      • Administers LANs/WANs; establishes procedures to back up data stored in computers and to maintain efficient operation of LANs/WANs; may serve as department computer access security officer.
      • Provides server support and maintenance; uses various utilities to trouble-shoot, repair, and check configuration of servers.
      • Maintains various records and documentation for department computer systems; may write straightforward report generation programs or other simple computer code.
    • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

      • Knowledge of: the functions and operations of computers, commercial computer software including database software, and of local area networks (LANs), including hardware/software installation.
      • Knowledge of Web site layout, composition, design, and management.
      • Knowledge of the general principles of office automation, and computer systems analysis;
      • Knowledge of a variety of hardware, operating systems, and related software used by the all departments.
      • Knowledge of Microsoft Sever 2008 in the Active Directory environment.
      • In-depth knowledge of operating systems such as XP, Window 7, AS400, and Linux
      • In-depth knowledge of software such as Microsoft Office.
      • Knowledge of cabling, network hardware and configuration
      • Knowledge of telephone systems (Wiring and trouble shooting).
      • Knowledge of office equipment to include printers, copiers, and fax machines.
      • Ability to analyze and resolve user needs and problems; interpret and apply information from technical manuals.
      • Ability to communicate on technical issues with individuals with varying degrees of computer familiarity;
      • Ability to instruct others in the use of computerized information systems; database software, spreadsheets, and other programs.
      • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff and employees.
    • PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

      • Physical Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
      • Physical Ability to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movements.
      • Physical Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, approximately 50 lbs.
      • Physical Ability to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
    • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Must be willing to work extended periods of time or varying shift hours.
      • Should have A+ certification or better
    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      • AS degree in Information Systems or any related field.
      • Minimum of 2 years IT experience in a manufacturing environment.

    THE ANCESTRAL LANDS PROGRAM IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO ENGAGE NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS.  

     

    SCC EMPOWERS INDIVIDUALS TO POSITIVELY IMPACT THEIR LIVES, THEIR COMMUNITIES AND THE ENVIRONMENT. The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) is a local, non-profit, AmeriCorps-affiliated organization with offices in Acoma, Durango, Gallup, Salida, and Zuni.  SCC selects young adults, ages 16-30, to complete conservation work projects on public lands through the Southwest.  SCC programs encourage environmental stewardship, foster community partnerships, and emphasize experiential learning.

     

    SUMMARY:

    Southwest Conservation Corps’ Crew Leaders perform many roles and are the key to our program’s success.  The position is also multi-faceted and demanding, but with opportunity for enormous rewards.  Successful candidates will demonstrate high standards, compassion, excellent judgment, and the desire to devote themselves to young adults and the environment.  The Crew Leader position requires mentorship and technical aptitude, and a high level of comfort in the outdoors. 

     

    ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

    LEADERSHIP & MENTORSHIP

    • Manage, supervise, and participate in day-to-day details of crew life in camp and at work.
    • Implement skills training and facilitate intentional discussions via informal lessons to contribute to the crew’s personal growth and group dynamics.
    • Promote individual Corpsmember development and a healthy community.

    SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT

    • Monitor, manage, and promote the crew’s physical and emotional safety on and off the work site.
    • Transport crew’s and equipment safely in SCC’s 12-passenger vans or large truck.
    • In accordance to a drug free workplace, alcohol and drugs are prohibited while participating in AmeriCorps and program activities and while on organization property.

     

    PROJECT MANAGEMENT & IMPLEMENTATION

    • Train and motivate a crew of four high-school students, ages 17-30, to efficiently complete conservation projects on public lands.
    • Coordinate logistics with project sponsors, Program Coordinator, Program Director and co-leader.

    Administration

    • Complete professional documentation of time sheets, daily and weekly reports, Corpsmember and Peer evaluations, incident reports, etc.
    • Manage petty cash, gas cards and food budget.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Frequently required to walk, sit and talk or listen.
    • Required to use hands to operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms.
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to focus.
    • Frequently required to drive an SCC vehicle, and must be able to speak, understand, read and write English. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Leadership experience with youth or young adults.
    • Technical Trail building and maintenance experience.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Physically fit and able to work long days in adverse conditions.
    • High School diploma or GED certificate.
    • First Responder or higher and CPR certification, if placed in less remote environments.
    • Good driving record (insurable by current SCC carrier) and current driver’s license.
    • Ability to pass a criminal background check

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Teaching, facilitation and team-building experience in diverse groups of people.
    • Experience in Conservation Corps or Youth Corps.
    • Professional conservation, construction or landscaping experience. SCC will train exceptional applicants.
    • Familiarity with basic conservation skills including tool maintenance.
    • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Experience teaching outdoor experiential and/or environmental education.
    • Sense of humor, spirit of adventure, and desire to make a positive difference.
