    SUMMARY: The primary result expected from the Quality Engineer will be to drive quality improvements with a focus on supplier quality, managing quality notifications and root cause investigations, reducing on-hold inventory, and working cross-functionally to improve component and raw material quality for the site.  The Quality Engineer will also support and lead quality improvement initiatives with all functions.

     

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Typical tasks for this position include (but are not limited to) the following:

     

    SUPPLIER QUALITY:

    • Prioritize and solve site supplier issues, working with production to investigate issues and verify that they are vendor-related, receiving non-conformances and submitting them as Quality Notifications in SAP, ensuring containment, working with buyers to provide data and samples to vendors, ensuring that buyers document root cause and corrective and preventive actions from vendors, reviewing QN’s to ensure fixes keep revised processes in control, and closing out QNs
    • Manage and report SAP Quality Notification information and drive on-hold inventory reduction/ closure to product holds to reduce Blocked Stock inventory
    • Conduct audits of suppliers’ quality systems, processes, products, and facilities as needed
    • Participate in design and technical reviews for Rust-Oleum specifications for supplier raw materials and components
    • Review engineering specifications and drawings to determine robustness of specifications and also the suppliers’ abilities to meet specifications (Design for Manufacturability)
    • Participate in Management Quality Reviews with suppliers, with FMEA’s and fault tree analysis as needed

     

    INTERNAL QUALITY:

    • Work cross-functionally to solve any internal quality issues and take preventive actions.  Evaluate our raw materials, dispersions, components, finished goods, as well as our site business processes as defined by ISO 9001:2015 (QC test methods, new product development, receiving, manufacturing, shipping, control of nonconforming material, auditing, training, etc.), and use problem solving skills to resolve immediate issues and provide recommendations for improvements
    • Develop data collection and management systems.  Statistically analyze data to identify trends, sources of variation, and waste related to quality
    • Quantify the potential impact ($, safety, quality, environment) of proposed improvements
    • Work with Quality Manager and other Leaders to prioritize and sequence projects, and to resource them with appropriate teams
    • Lead and participate in cross-functional process improvement teams on projects from “Just Do It” to “DMAIC”

    Required Experience

    • Bachelors degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or Packaging)
    • 3 + years of quality experience (in a manufacturing setting) or equivalent process industry or consumer products manufacturing experience.
    • Knowledgeable in manufacturing equipment and processes.
    • Proficient in MS office, Statistical analysis (Minitab, etc).
    • SAP experience desirable.
    • Experience in lean, six sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Comfortable in an office as well as industrial environments.
    • Lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to travel up to 30%
