This position is located at Southern Correctional Institution, Troy, North Carolina. This is a close custody facility housing male offenders. This position is responsible for providing supervision of subordinate staff, conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. This position is responsible for conducting investigations and performing searches of persons, places and objects. Responsible for completing, reviewing and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms. Makes security inspections of the facility and grounds; monitor posts to ascertain that officers are alert, that discipline is being maintained and that assignments are carried out properly. Perform rescue functions to include CPR, basic first aid, physically removing people from dangerous areas and using firefighting equipment to include fire hoses, extinguishers and breathing apparatus. Responsible for identifying training needs and coordinates delivery of training to subordinate staff. This position works closely with and reports directly to Correctional Captain III and/or Correctional Assistant Superintendent. Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility Documented knowledge of facility operations Documented knowledge of Prisons' policy and procedures Documented report writing skills Currently on the Lieutenant's eligibility list Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant, or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
