This position is a salary grade GN09 with a recruitment range of $36,677.00 - $50,000.00. The Design Technician has the responsibility to assist the Base Civil Engineer Engineering Section in the execution of the in-house design program. The incumbent prepares detailed accurate working drawings and construction bids documents to outline the proposed scope of work. The Design Technician administers the as-built drawing archive and the AutoCAD drawing database for the entire NC Air National Guard's facilities inventory. The position holder is expected to be the organization's leading expert in the use of sophisticated computer-aided drafting (CADD) technologies such as Autodesk's AutoCAD and ERSI Arc GIS. The position must also be prepared to use engineer mapping software programs when necessary, to include GIS (Geographic Information System) and Adobe Acrobat. The Design Technician must be adept at using (and help others to interface with) our archiving, programming, and real estate inventory management systems (Air Force Civil Engineer System, a.k.a. ACES). The position maintains office drafting supplies and project records. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Listed below are the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) associated with this position. These KSAs, along with the minimum education and experience listed are required in order to be deemed "qualified" for the position. Therefore you must demonstrate or provide supporting information within the body of your application to demonstrate your possession of each KSA listed. Experience reviewing, reproducing and making changes to existing design drawings or blueprints. Experience independently conducting site inspections. Experience in the maintenance and preparation of detailed records and reports. MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES: personnel that have an associate's degree or higher with a concentration in architectural drafting technology or engineering technology degree or a combination of training and experience. Knowledge of Building standards and codes. Working knowledge in the use and maintenance of GPS mapping equipment and software. Experience in Drafting, design, using AutoCAD, GIS and plotting software. Experience with project management procedures such as reporting survey findings, and project status. The employee must be physically able to climb stairs and perform moderate levels of exertion to fully examine buildings under construction or equipment during installation. Per 5 CFR 731, upon appointment, applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment.
