Your role at Camp Cedar is two-fold, as you are both a bunk counselor and an activity instructor.

As a bunk counselor, you server as the primary caretaker for a group of young boys (ages 8-15). There are typically 12-15 campers in a bunk and four counselors. You live with the boys, eat your meals together, and serve as their friend, older sibling and role model for the summer season. It is your job not just to ensure each child's safety, but to make sure that each kid is having fun and enjoying their own, unique summer camp experience.

As an activity instructor, you teach 4-5 periods a day in your chosen area of expertise. We have a wide-ranging set of activities from team and individual sports to outdoor education to creative arts and an expansive waterfront program (a list of available positions can be found on our website). Here, you have the chance to teach, coach and referee, all while really getting to know each and every kid in camp. From the novice eight year-olds to the most experienced fifteen-year-olds, everyone has an opportunity to make progress while at their activities, and its your role to ensure that they do so that everyone feels positive about their time spent at your activity.

There are a number of other aspects to camp, from our special events to our campfires, our weekly trip-days to our end-of-season Color War, just to name a few, and it truly is a tremendous way to spend your summer. In addition, you get the opportunity to meet a multi-cultural staff from all over the world; last year we had nearly 20 different countries represented at Cedar!

With that said, we are a family-run operation since day one some 65 summers ago, and with that, there is a true sense of community and family around Cedar. We pride ourselves on that community feel, and are very excited about the prospect of bringing a new generation of counselors into the Camp Cedar family.

Our perfect counselors are those who are willing and eager to take on new challenges and put themselves out there for the sake of our campers. We want staff who have no trouble being silly, while still serving as responsible caretakers for our children.

The more experience you have in your activity/area of expertise, the better, but our main-focus is the safety and well-being of our campers, and to ensure that they go home having grown up, learned something about themselves and made progress however they see fit.
