PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The El Malpais National Conservation Area (NCA) was established in 1987 to protect nationally significant geological, archaeological, ecological, cultural, scenic, scientific, and Wilderness resources surrounding the Grants Lava Flows. The Individual Placement (IP) is to assist with recreation enhancement by initiating community involvement through a local art installation at the NCA. The IP would be working directly with the Recreation resource under the multi resources division. Also, aiding in developing interpretation for a National Conservation Area.
The goal of the intern will be to begin a local art installation at the El Malpais NCA. They will be expected to identify community contacts in areas surrounding El Malpais (including but not limited to local tribes, schools, community centers, and artist groups) which can be utilized to find artists interested in contributing their work to the El Malpais NCA. They will need to familiarize themselves with copyright permissions and legal documentation necessary to procure artwork, as well as, determine costs and timelines for each piece of artwork.
