ROLE: Apprentice Lineman will be exposed to many facets of construction, operation and maintenance of the Electrical Distribution System. Under the direction of the Foreman, the Apprentice Lineman is responsible for building, maintaining and repairing overhead and underground power distribution transmission lines within the scope of his/her training and certification in a safe and efficient manner within accepted operation standards, approved policies and procedures. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Use apprentice level knowledge of electrical line work to safely construct and maintain electric transmission and distribution lines. * Climbs poles of all types and performs jobs required of lineman off the poles, including changing out of arms, transformers and conductors. * Apprentice Lineman must have general and specific knowledge of working around energized lines, equipment and operate equipment in order to construct, maintain and repair electrical systems both cold and energized lines. * Provides tools, material and supplies to upper class lineman. Previous work experience as a Groundman. Possess own basic hand tools. Preparing the equipment and worksite for effective completion of assignments. Demonstrate the ability to assist ground crew operations as directed. * Drives and operates necessary equipment to frame and set poles, lay wire, connect and disconnect services. * Responds to power outages and customer problems and trouble shoots to restore power. REQUIREMENTS: * Work involves physical exertion, heavy lifting, and exposure to inclement weather, as well as the hazardous conditions of working with high-voltage energized lines and equipment. * Good physical condition and dexterity is required. This includes walking, stooping, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, pushing, pulling, working in awkward positions and enclosed spaces. Lifting up to 75lbs. is required. * Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately and possess good hearing as needed for work and safety compliance in a hot line environment. * Ability to travel and report for 24 hour standby when responding to storm relief throughout the United States. QUALIFICATIONS: * Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License and maintain a Medical Card certified by a DOT Medical Examiner or have the ability to obtain one within an agreed upon timeframe. * Subject to random alcohol and drug testing requirements and criminal background check. This position requires vast experience in the construction and repair of distribution underground and overhead distribution and transmission powerlines with a great emphasis on safety and OSHA Regulations and knowledge.
