Part-time The YMCA of South Florida is looking for energetic individuals
who have experience working with children to join the Allapattah YMCA
Family Center team as a Kids Zone Counselor. The Kids Zone Counselor is
responsible for ensuring that children under their care are provided a
warm, safe, and nurturing environment by caring for them while their
parents and / or guardians utilize the facility. Essential Functions: *
Interact with children in age appropriate activities. * Assist in
planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest
centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies. * Assist with
planning family center events, rentals and parties * Actively
participate and supervise children in a caring and a positive manner. *
Treat children with warmth, dignity, and respect. * Demonstrate, model
and gear program to the needs of the individual children with concerns
for their interests, disabilities and special talents. * Maintain
communication with parents regarding activities, progress and
achievements. * Clearly communicate to parents and supervisor any
injuries, behavior problems and / or health concerns (i.e. runny nose,
fever, etc.) in a timely manner. * Ensure that Kid Zone guidelines are
met (Age restrictions and Log-In & Log-Out procedures). * Assist in
annual campaign which includes achieving individual and team goals. *
Keep Kid Zone room arranged with childrens safety in mind. Ensure that
the arrangement, appearance, decor, and environment of the room are
conducive to learning. * Establish relationship with parents and
ensurecommunication regarding activities, progress, achievements,
classroom behavior, and / or concerns. * Practice and model appropriate
discipline procedures in accordance with YMCA policy. Job Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred. * Must be at least 21
years old. * Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in childcare (i.e.
babysitting, camp counselor, preschool, etc.) * Presents themselves in a
positive manner and displays a warm and caring demeanor towards children
and parents. * Must enjoy actively interacting with children - minimum
one year experience. * Ability to lift children ranging in weight, up to
50lbs * Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. *
Ability to interact with individuals at all levels. * Bilingual, fluent
in English and Spanish preferred. Certificates and Licenses: * First
Aid, CPR and AED certification must be completed within 30 days of hire.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and
satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background
