  • Responsibilities

    The International Corporate Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the Accounting activities. He/She develops, communicates, and enforces global accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley. He/She ensures accounting principles are followed including application of multi-currency, network, and transfer pricing methodologies. This position manages others within the department.

    The International Corporate Accounting Manager holds self and others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals. He/She advises accounting staff on proper accounting treatment to ensure proper local and U.S. GAAP records are maintained. This position researches external literature and consults with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to provide clarification on UPS Accounting policies and procedures. The International Corporate Accounting Manager reviews journal entries and account reconciliations made by accounting personnel (local and remote) to ensure completeness and accuracy.

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, conferences, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development.
    • Responds to questions and concerns from international staff to identify solutions for various issues.
    • Researches and submits proposed accounting policy to senior management for publication to address gaps in documentation.
    • Assesses the accounting environment to determine needs for change in accounting policies and procedures within UPS.
    • Assists with various system implementations across international business units to ensure accounting compliance.
    • Evaluates UPS balance sheet and hedges foreign currency exposures to reduce volatility.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) – Accounting, Finance, or a related field - Preferred
    • Master’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) – Accounting, Finance, or related field – Preferred
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – Preferred

    Preferred Competencies:

    • Accounting Knowledge: Applies standard GAAP methods; makes recommendations to improve practices or procedures in compliance with GAAP.
    • Applies Database Knowledge: Demonstrates some advanced knowledge of database design principles; works with users to define requirements with minimal oversight from others; defines user rights; describes security measures, such as passwords, firewalls, and access rights based on user requirements; describes information organization, such as classes, links, records, and fields.
    • Establishes Metrics and Performance Tools: Uses the enterprise strategy to identify the key indicators of performance for individuals, departments, and/or groups; creates measures relevant to desired results; recommends methods for measurement (e.g., surveys, focus groups, observations, metrics, etc.).
    • Multicultural Agility: Routinely addresses problems involving global business needs; applies cultural sensitivity when making decisions on business issues; recommends changes in the way business is conducted in different countries or geographical regions; recognizes and pursues opportunities for advanced cultural awareness.
    • Project Planning: Develops and executes project management plans for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately.
