  • Responsibilities

    The Health & Safety Intern will provide support for the daily operations of the Human Resources Department with attention to the Health & Safety areas.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Update and maintain Occupational Health and Safety Management System documentation
    • Compose competent memos to employees to effectively communicate policy and procedural changes
    • Health and safety tracking/reporting/metrics
    • Conduct audits and inspections
    • Participate in employee training, emergency preparedness and assure the quality of programs
    • Assist safety manager and supervisor with a variety of projects
    • Implement and monitor effective processes that track identification, activity and corrective measures surrounding incident/injury risk

  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

    • Must be a junior or senior currently enrolled in a 4-year college or master program with a preferred course of study in Safety Sciences or Occupational Health.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
    • Knowledge of U.S. Labor Laws: FLSA, OSHA, FMLA, and IRCA is preferred
    • Must have exceptional oral, written and interactive communication skills
    • Skilled in effective research tactics and good organization
    • Ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality
    • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to internal and external customers

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer

    Founded on a $100 loan in 1907, 2 teenage boys opened up a messenger service in a 6 by 17 foot office located just below the sidewalk on Second Avenue and Main Street in Seattle, WA. Messengers ran errands, carried notes, hand baggage, and delivered trays of food for customers. They also delivered packages, traveling by streetcars and bicycles for longer trips, and later using motorcycles.
