    The Small Package Market Planning Analyst is responsible for retrieving, analyzing, and interpreting competitive and market information. He/She completes modeling of the size and growth of the US small package market and UPS’s volume and revenue share. This position also develops short range and long range competitor and market forecasts. The Small Package Market Planning Analyst creates and presents requested reports that assess business results, informing Sales & Marketing and senior management decision-making.

    The Small Package Market Planning Analyst comprehends specific market competitor and product trends to determine what drives performance. He/She utilizes forecasting techniques (i.e., econometric or statistical modeling) to produce logical and appropriate market forecasts. This position conducts analysis of variances (i.e., compares actual results against forecast plan) to understand and determine reasons for differences to inform future forecasting and modeling. The Small Package Market Planning Analyst modifies the planning process, tools, programs, and business rules as needed to increase efficiency and accommodate changes in the market. He/She prepares presentations to communicate results and analysis stemming from the market, product, geographic, and econometric analyses. He/She is also involved in ad hoc projects that support various cross functional departments within UPS.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • Verifies data output to identify inconsistencies and errors
    • Prepares key findings documents to explain data analyses
    • Communicates and presents market insights to senior management to provide vision on customer activity and to support building business cases for new products or product enhancements
    • Serves as subject matter expert to manage data implications and analyses
    • Develops process flow diagrams to document changes and updates
    • Balances multiple projects and deployment schedules to meet stakeholder goals
    • Develops project plans (i.e., detailed plan, milestones, and work breakdown structures) and assigns tasks to resources to ensure that the project will be completed on time and according to specifications

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Applies Economic Analysis and Forecasting Knowledge: Demonstrates understanding of UPS’s business and the economic factors that drive it; identifies economic indicators that correlate with industry, UPS, and segment business performance; develops basic forecasting models
    • Applies Information Analysis & Solution Generation Knowledge: Familiar with primary information sources relevant to assigned area; utilizes computer-based analytical and information management tools in order to perform routine analysis; documents approach and findings; reviews results with others as appropriate
    • Applies Problem Definition & Structuring Knowledge: Identifies key factors behind basic problems and establish a path to solve them; proposes approaches to solve more complicated problems; investigates and diagnoses anomalies in routine business results
    • Applies Rate Setting Knowledge: Demonstrates understanding of the structure of UPS rates, additional fees and accessorials; describes the process by which rates are reviewed and established annually; demonstrates understanding of competitors' published rate positions and structures
    • Conducts Competitive Analysis: Demonstrates a basic understanding of competitor’s tactics, product/service offerings, and strategies; translates competitor performance and actions into implications for UPS; works with competitive analysis group to understand new trends and implications of new service offerings, strategies, etc.
    • Finance Knowledge: Demonstrates an understanding of basic financial terminology and concepts such as cash flows, operating profit/loss, and net income; conducts financial analyses
    • Project Planning: Demonstrates an understanding of basic project planning processes, including planning action items and resources
    • Statistical Analysis: Demonstrates a basic knowledge of statistical terminology and understanding of analyses and/or tests (e.g. measures of central tendency, standard deviation, correlation, analysis of variance (ANOVA), simple linear regression, significance testing, ARIMA, etc.); displays the ability to calculate basic statistics
    • Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Marketing or Data Analytics - Preferred
    • Master’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Mathematics or Economics - Preferred
    • Advanced experience using Microsoft Excel (e.g., Pivot tables, V-look ups, VBA, etc.), Access, PowerPoint, Power BI, Tableau, EViews, and R/R Studio - Preferred
    • Experience using statistical software - Preferred
