ANTIBODY DISCOVERY OVERVIEW
Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.
The Antibody Discovery Intern will work as a member of the Single B cell and Sequencing Technologies team, a part of Biologics Discovery Sciences (BDS). The intern will have the opportunity to learn the skills and science of antibody discovery through hands-on support of AbbVie’s early discovery activities. With careful attention to detail, the intern will execute lab work and record results. They will perform protocols for RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR, cloning and sequencing to identify antibody sequences from candidates selected from antibody discovery platforms. They will enable production and characterization of antibodies through the generation and delivery of vectors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Learn about antibody discovery from single B cell platforms, including the campaign design and milestones for each project
Support technology development of a novel molecular biology workflow for single B cell discovery, including antibody characterization and screening
Support single B cell antibody discovery Molecular Core sequencing efforts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or other related field
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Must have basic laboratory and pipetting skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Exposure to Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, and/or Immunology
Experience with PCR and/or molecular cloning
Experience with ELISA and/or flow cytometry assays
