BIOLOGICS DRUG PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.
The Biologics Drug Product Development group is a part of the Biologics CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) Development department within Development Sciences at AbbVie. The group is responsible for the formulation and process development of late-stage assets currently in AbbVie’s neurotoxin and biologics pipeline. The intern will execute meaningful experiments to better characterize the solution behavior of drug product formulation excipients used in sterile liquid as well as lyophilized formulations. The intern will also be exposed to certain aspects of late-stage drug product development (First-in-Human to Commercial).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Plan and execute experiments to understand interfacial and solution properties of excipients in drug product buffers
Develop fit-for-use methods to enable formulation excipient characterization including surface tensiometry, size exclusion chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, fluorescence spectrophotometry, qELISA, time-resolved fluorescence, and RP-HPLC
Correlate excipient solution behavior to process stability of model biologic formulations
Present data, results, and conclusions to the broader team
Participate in drafting a research manuscript/poster as an outcome of the summer research experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Analytical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Excellent team player with strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Research laboratory experience
Experience with polymer chemistry and lyophilization processes
Knowledge and/or hands-on experience with surface tensiometry, and size exclusion, chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, fluorescence spectrophotometry, qELISA, time-resolved fluorescence, and RP-HPLC.
BENEFITS AND AMENITIES
