    CENTRALIZED ORGANIC SYNTHESIS CHEMISTRY INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

    The intern will focus on novel asymmetric synthesis as part of the Centralized Organic Synthesis group within the Centralized Medicinal Chemistry department. Asymmetric non-natural amino acid synthesis has potential broad application in the pharmaceutical industry in the generation of proprietary chemical matter suitable for use in future medicinal chemistry programs and screening platforms. The intern will focus on exploration of the scope of the transformation, synthesis of key building blocks, and data analysis and tabulation with an opportunity for publication in a high impact organic chemistry journal.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Multi-step synthesis

    • Evaluation of substrate scope and selectivity

    • Reaction optimization and design of follow-up experiments

    • Data analysis and tabulation

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor's or PhD in Chemistry or related field

    • Must be enrolled in university during the internship period

    • Highly motivated and independent researcher

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Pursuing a PhD in Chemistry or related field

    • Exposure to multi-step organic synthesis, asymmetric synthesis

    • Strong presentation skills

    • Experience in experimental writing and data tabulation
