COMPUTATIONAL ONCOLOGY RESEARCH INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.
AbbVie’s Genomics Research Center (GRC) is a center of excellence for bioinformatics, functional genomics, human genetics, pharmacogenomics, and multiple population cohorts (over 1 million genomes) and works across all R&D, and other areas such as process sciences and corporate strategy. The GRC plays an integral role towards our goal of developing world class genetics and genomics research, focusing on finding the right targets and helping us better understand not only human disease biology but also the behavior of and response to our drugs in clinical trials.
The Department of Computational Oncology within GRC executes bioinformatics analysis and research strategies and builds next-generation genomic data integration capabilities to drive target and biomarker discovery and development across AbbVie’s Oncology portfolio, forged by strong collaboration with Discovery and Precision Medicine teams. This Computational Oncology Research Intern will work on some of the most exciting pre-clinical, as well as clinical, genomic datasets at AbbVie and implement novel bioinformatics capability to characterize genetic features and genome biology leading to high potential early discovery targets. The successful candidate will capitalize on GRC’s strong bioinformatics capabilities as well as the close collaboration with Discovery teams to impact AbbVie’s Oncology Discovery portfolio through biological data science best practice, advanced data presentation/visualization techniques, and effective communication.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Contribute to the conceptualization of novel genetic/genomic characterization strategy for oncology early target discovery
Contribute to the implementation of bioinformatics pipeline and analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
Apply molecular omics data and machine learning on oncology phenotype prediction
