DMPK RESEARCH INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.
The DMPK Research Intern will investigate and optimize hepatocyte spheroids, co-cultures and other complex in vitro models for several applications within the drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics disciplines (i.e., clearance prediction, estimation of the fraction of drug metabolized by individual enzymes, metabolite identification). Studies will include but are not limited to the optimization of seeding/culturing methods for mono-/co-cultures of liver spheroids, development of protocols for fabricating spheroids with hepatocytes from preclinical species, evaluating commercially available complex in vitro models, demonstration of clearance prediction for compounds that are slowly metabolized, and establishment of protocols for determining individual enzyme involvement in metabolism.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Prepare cell cultures using sterile techniques
Record experimental conditions and data accurately
Perform quantitative analysis
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD or Phar mD in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Toxicology, or other related field
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Must have enthusiasm for science and eagerness to learn
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Exposure to liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and other techniques for quantitative analysis of small molecule drugs
Knowledge of cell biology and sterile technique
