    DIGITAL PATHOLOGY, IMAGE ANALYSIS INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

    The Digital Pathology, Image Analysis Intern will work as part of the Digital Pathology team helping to develop image analysis algorithms using cutting edge computer vision, machine learning and AI techniques for quantitative image analysis.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Utilize cutting edge technology for the analysis of images or similar data derived from a variety of imaging modalities and platforms

    • Devise AI approaches to develop image analysis solutions for drug discovery and late-stage research across disease areas such as oncology, cancer immunotherapy, immunology and neuroscience.

      • Participate in two exciting projects which include developing, validating and deploying “on the fly” AI models for - a) curating images after acquisition and release for downstream applications, and; b) phenotyping the tumor immune microenvironment from bright field images.
    • Data compilation and presentation at internal meetings

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics or related field

    • Programming experience (Python/MATLAB)

    • Experience with statistics, data analysis and visualization of multi-dimensional data

    • Familiarity and strong interest in developing and validating machine learning and AI techniques for image like data

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience working with microscopy images - bright field and dark field (optional) or with high resolution/large images and file formats

    • Familiarity with microscopic anatomy and tissue morphology

    • Experience using digital pathology tools such as Halo and VisioPharm
