DISCOVERY ANTIVIRAL RESEARCH INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.
The Discovery Antiviral Research Intern will work with the AbbVie Virology team. The internship is designed to provide basic or advanced experience in cell culture, virus generation and propagation, antiviral small molecule or biologics screening, as well as standard molecular biology and biochemical techniques. On a day-to-day basis, the intern will assist the lead virologist.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Assist in the development of novel in vitro assays to validate and characterize therapeutic entities.
Perform mammalian cell culture and independently develop, run, analyze and troubleshoot in vitro assays, such as cell-based activity assays, virus generation and propagation, and high throughput screening assays
Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program
Review, interpret and document study data
Participate in cross-disciplinary scientific discussion and present scientific data to the team and cross-functional areas
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Biological Science or related field
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Demonstrated background in Virology, Immunology, and/or Molecular Biology
Excellent communication, organizational and time-management skills
Eager to learn, self-motivated, flexible, accountable and can effectively handle multiple tasks at one time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in virology research
Proficiency in primary cell culture, a wide range of virology laboratory techniques, and a wide range of molecular biology techniques
Expertise in multi-omics analysis
