    ONCOLOGY DISCOVERY BIOLOGICS INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products: Imbruvica, Venclexta, and Empliciti, and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules. These new molecules are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer. AbbVie has more than 1,000 scientists, clinicians, and product developers with strong entrepreneurial roots dedicated to this research. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments.

AbbVie’s Immuno-oncology team is expanding and is hiring an Intern to join our Immuno-oncology group. The intern will join a dynamic team focused on identifying and evaluating novel targets in the field of cancer immunotherapy. Cancer immunotherapy harnesses the cytotoxic capabilities of the immune system and directs it towards the destruction of highly immunogenic tumors. However, not all patients treated with checkpoint blockade therapy experience tumor shrinkage, durable responses, or prolonged survival. Thus, enhancing tumor immune cell infiltration of poorly immunogenic tumors is a critical challenge.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Help identify critical chemokines to enhance bioactivity of antibodies against other immuno-oncology (IO) agents (ie . checkpoint inhibitors, co-stimulatory agents, immuno-cytokines, etc. ).
