ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
The AbbVie Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) department oversees site compliance with local and company EHS requirements. In addition, the EHS department develops and manages programs which ensure safe workplace conditions for all employees and demonstrates environmental responsibility towards surrounding communities. The EHS team supports the Research and Development operations and Site Services at our South San Francisco facility. Under the mentorship of EHS specialists and managers, the intern will work closely with cross-functional teams to promote/foster a strong EHS culture, uphold compliance, and drive continual improvement. The EHS intern will engage in a variety of activities such as environmental compliance reviews, training and education, emergency preparedness planning, industrial hygiene and ergonomics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Conduct EHS inspections and work with the business area in implementing corrective/preventive actions
Review and update EHS training content and employee training profiles
Assist staff with facilitating EHS orientation sessions for new hires
Assist in development of EHS communications and implement sitewide EHS awareness campaign
Conduct EHS risk assessments of lab operations
Review waste management profiles
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams
Excellent interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills
