FLOW CYTOMETRY SUMMER INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

The Flow Cytometry Core Lab helps advance AbbVie’s drug discover pipeline collaborating with scientists using flow cytometry technology in their research. This technique is a powerful bioanalytical platform that allows the characterization of heterogenous tissues and is often used to support biomarker evaluation.

The ABA Flow Cytometry Core Lab is seeking a summer intern to assist with the day-to-day activities of the lab in operation and research. Interns will have the opportunity to get hands-on-experience with state-of-the-art flow cytometry instrumentation, collaborate with multiple research scientists that visit the lab, and execute their own project using the available flow cytometry analyzers and/or cell sorters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Learn basic instrument operation and quality control

• Assist with instrument quality control and maintenance

• Learn basic sample preparation and cell culture techniques

• Learn and perform flow cytometry data analysis

• Develop lab standard operational procedures

• Develop educational resource materials to assist with basic training of new users

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or other Biology-related field

• Must be enrolled in university during the internship timeframe

• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

• Strong organizational skills

• Detail oriented

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous cell and molecular biology research laboratory experience

• Knowledge of lab safety procedures and requirements, and waste disposal guidelines

• Ability to conduct and report on scientific experiments and findings
