GENOMICS RESEARCH CENTER EPIGENOMICS INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

The Genomics Research Center (GRC) at AbbVie is a center of excellence for genetics and genomics that supports both Discovery and Development. The GRC goal is to develop world class genetics and genomics research focused on finding the right targets and helping AbbVie scientists better understand not only human disease biology, but also the behavior of and response to drugs in clinical trials across all therapeutic areas. The intern will assist with implementation of methodologies in the field of nascent /active transcription such as cs-RNA seq (capped small RNA seq) to identify and prioritize functional GWAS risk variants at genome-wide scale.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Implement cs-RNA-seq in primary / immortalized human cells
Refine the method to test lower threshold of total RNA input and generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner under supervision
Record experiments (protocol, data, inventory)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing Master’s or PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genomics, Genetics, Cancer Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience or related field
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Strong experience in molecular/cellular techniques including cell culture, extracting/handling chromatin, RNA, DNA/RNA PAGE gel extraction, ChIP, qRT-PCR
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in generating NGS libraries
Experience performing large scale genomic data analyses such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, familiarity using tools such as HOMER, Rstudio (Posit) etc
