    LUNG FIBROSIS INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

    The Translational and Transformational Immunology Department (TTID) is seeking a highly motivated student to support early drug discovery in the area of lung fibrosis. The intern will work with in-house experts to develop complex primary cell culture models (e.g., co-cultures, 3D matrices, and organoids), and use such models to identify/validate novel targets in fibrosis diseases.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Maintain and characterize primary lung fibroblast/epithelial cells in complex culture models. Utilize 3D/organoid culture and molecular biology techniques (e.g., immunofluorescence staining, qPCR, western bot, ELISA, and flow cytometry)

    • Optimize culture conditions/treatments to capture disease-relevant cell phenotypes

    • Maintain accurate laboratory records

    • Analyze data and present work in internal meetings

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Biology, Immunology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field

    • Must be enrolled in university during the internship period

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Exposure to mammalian cell culture

    • Knowledge of lung biology/fibrosis

    • Previous experience with 3D/organoid culture and molecular biology techniques (e.g., immunofluorescence staining, qPCR, western bot, ELISA, and flow cytometry)

    • Good communication skills
