ONCOLOGY DISCOVERY TUMOR DEPENDENCY INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
The Tumor Dependency group within Oncology Discovery plays a key role in the identification and validation of novel targets that present cancer selective dependencies. Under supervision of a senior principal research scientist in the group, the Oncology Discovery Tumor Dependency Intern will primarily support elucidation of RNA metabolism mechanisms in solid tumors with specific focus on mRNA stability and splicing mechanisms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Identify key RNA metabolism pathways impacting solid tumor cell cross talk with tumor suppressor gene functions through literature and bioinformatic analysis
Develop and/or apply biological principles to support a hypothesis driven experimental plan to identify key players in the RNA metabolism pathway implicating cellular state
Lead the execution of in vitro experiments to advance the biological concepts in support of role of RNA metabolism regulators as novel targets in oncogenesis
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Must possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including analysis
Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision and direction. Can work both independently or as part of a team
Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to conduct and interpret scientific experiments, providing suggestions for additional experiments, including design and development of new assays
Hands on experience in nucleic acid extraction/purification and identification of different species of RNA
Proficient in lentiviral production and transduction, stable cell line development and CRISPR-Cas based gene editing
Experience utilizing multiple bioinformatics platform to confirm RNA species identification and functional implication
Expected graduation in between August 2023- December 2024
