    ORGANIC CHEMISTRY/CATALYSIS INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

Working towards the production of new molecular libraries and key building blocks for pharmaceutical development, the intern will work to merge organometallic and biocatalytic transformations for the rapid generation of molecular complexity. High-throughput screening techniques will be used to identify catalysts while downstream efforts will focus on developing robust, high-yielding reactions to generate the desired products.

The intern will join a diverse, multifunctional team of process chemists focused on the application of multiple catalytic technologies. The intern will have the opportunity to learn how the process chemists invent chemical processes and prepare active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) to enable clinical trials, toxicology studies and drug product development.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Execute high- and medium-throughput experiments, collate and interpret data, and provide detailed reports on findings

    • Perform organic transformations and thoroughly characterize products using standard analytical methods (e.g., NMR, MS, chiral HPLC, etc.)

    • Evaluate key reaction parameters to optimize desired transformations

    • Thorough record keeping

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Chemistry or related field

    • Must be enrolled in university during the internship period

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience with organometallic and/or biocatalytic transformations

    BENEFITS AND AMENITIES

    • Competitive pay

    • Travel, transportation and lodging support for eligible students

    • Opportunity to connect with AbbVie leaders and scientists

    • Exposure to cutting edge technologies and concepts presented by AbbVie scientists

    EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
