    ORGANIC CHEMISTRY INTERN, ADC PLATFORM INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

    The ADC platform team in Lake County, IL is looking for an intern to explore the optimization of a recently discovered reaction. The intern will identify the scope and limitations of this chemistry, as well as its application for the synthesis of biologically active analogs. The intern will learn how medicinal chemistry principles are applied for the development of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) with a focus on the “drug” component. As a member of a platform team there are opportunities to interact with experts from multiple adjacent scientific disciplines.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

    • Setup, monitor and purify reactions

    • Characterize products using standard analytical methods

    • Evaluate reaction mixtures to identify any byproducts

    • Collaborate on the design of new synthetic targets

    • Keep accurate records

    • Present work at group meetings

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Organic Chemistry or related field

    • Must be enrolled in university during the internship period

    • Laboratory experience in synthetic organic chemistry

    • Experience with chromatographic purification

    • Proficient with NMR interpretation

    • Expected graduation date between 12/2023 - 12/2027

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience with analytical techniques, such as LCMS, IR, UV spectroscopy

    • Familiarity with data analysis and data presentation

    • Medicinal chemistry coursework
