PHARMACOLOGY INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.
The Rheumatology group is dedicated to the development of innovative therapeutics, both small molecule and biologics. Rheumatology is part of the larger pharmacology and pathology group, which is focused on late discovery of drugs before entering preclinical toxicology and then clinical trials. The Rheumatology Intern will learn cell culture, cell-based assays, biochemical assays, rodent models, data analysis and presentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Development of in vitro synovial fibroblast assays and evaluate drug candidates
Development of in vivo mechanistic rodent model and evaluate drug candidates
Development of imaging, flow cytometry, and biomarker readouts in in vivo models
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD or PharmD in Biology, Immunology, Pharmaceutical Sciences or other related field
Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
Must be willing to work with rodents (mice and rats), including handling and dosing animals
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of immunology or experience in immunology research
Familiarity with data analysis, data presentation and statistical software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Graphpad Prism)
Experience in flow cytometry
Experience with tissue culture
