    2024 Biologics Analytical R &D Internship Overview

    The Biologics Analytical R&D department is responsible for all aspects of Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) analytical development required to move biologic candidates from discovery into and through clinical studies. The Biologics Analytical R&D Intern will develop and optimize a capillary-based western blotting method to provide quick assessments of protein subunit assembly across different biological products. This analytical method will provide valuable data and insight to assist in determining structural assembly, facilitate clone selection during cell line screening, and confirm results in processing biological products during early product development .

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Assist in developing and optimizing capillary-based western blotting methods to assess protein subunit assembly.
    • Perform method robustness and qualification studies.
    • Analyze and interpret data.
    • Organize and document data in an electronic laboratory notebook.
    • Author a guidance document and/or test method with recommended starting points and development steps for new molecules, as well as a report summarizing key findings during method development and optimization.
    • Deliver group presentation to share knowledge among the key stakeholders.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in a university, pursuing a Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related scientific field.
    • Must be enrolled in a university for at least one semester following the internship.
    • Basic pipetting, sample dilution, and buffer preparation techniques.
    • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Expected graduation date between December 2024 – July 2025.
    • General knowledge of drug product development.
    • Strong desire to learn about recombinant protein technology, protein analytical chemistry methods, and/or biotherapeutic drug development.
    • Hands-on experience with common protein analytical chemistry techniques (electrophoretic methods such as capillary electrophoresis, western blotting, protein concentration determination).
    • Ability to work with and learn data analysis software.
    • Strong quantitative skills.
