    Research Internship in Drug Discovery Science & Technology Overview

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

    The Research Intern will work in the Genetic Medicine and External Partnerships group in the Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine Department to provide in vitro assay support for early exploratory and pipeline projects.

    The Research Intern will help to characterize in vitro internalization properties of novel biologics using the Incucyte live-cell imaging system. Responsibilities include:

    • Validate positive and negative control antibodies in project-relevant human cell lines using Incucyte live-cell imaging to establish a standardized internalization assay.
    • Assess the internalization properties of candidate antibodies from multiple projects.
    • Support additional functional assay development to characterize biologics.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or other related field.
    • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
    • Expected graduation date between December 2024 - July 2025.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Exposure to basic wet laboratory bench skills (pipetting, compound microscopy, sterile technique, buffer/reagent prep, etc.)
    • Mammalian cell culture (aseptic technique, culturing, expanding, and freezing cell lines, etc.)
    • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills (verbal and written).
    • Prior experience with flow cytometry, immunology, and/or antibody internalization is a plus!
