    2024 Establishing Pharmacogenetics Database for Application in Phase I Clinical Trials Intern Overview

    This internship opportunity is in the Molecular Medicine group within the Genomic Research Center (GRC) which plays a key role in understanding the effects of pharmacogenetics on drug exposure and safety. The intern will characterize the distribution of pharmacogenetic variants in a healthy population and compare the distribution of variants data across two genotyping platforms to build a prospective database for use in future clinical trials.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Identifying best practices to analyze genetic data through literature and bioinformatic analysis using microarray and long-read sequencing platforms.
    • Deploying pipelines for the analysis of previously generated genetic data.
    • Comparing the two platforms to generate the prospective pharmacogenetic database.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Molecular Biology, Genomics, or related field.
    • Must be enrolled in university during the internship period and one semester after.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Expected graduation date between December 2024 – July 2025.
    • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including analysis.
    • Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team.
    • Familiar with pharmacogenetic analysis pipelines, including microarray and sequencing analysis.
    • Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
