    Skincare Research & Development Formulation Intern Overview

    The Product Development Formulation Intern will be responsible for:

    • Leading a wide array of cosmetic and OTC (over the counter) personal care formulation projects (such as lotions, cleansers, sunscreens and other innovative premium skin care products) at the SkinMedica Product Development laboratory.
    • Bench formulations, laboratory experiments, troubleshooting of formulation issues, generation of ingredient lists, co-development of product briefs, as well as the support of regulatory ingredient review and of scale-up/manufacturing.
    • Specification development, routine analysis, stability testing and ingredient research.

    Experience operating laboratory equipment and process knowledge are required to make formulation batches; including but not limited to laboratory mixers, blenders, homogenizers, balances, pH meters, viscometers, moisture analyzer, microscope, packaging fillers, sealers.

    Broad knowledge of raw materials, surfactants, emulsions and industry trends is essential.

    Given a formula, the intern is expected to be able to batch, test, and proactively monitor, investigate, and resolve issues related to formula, stability, micro, safety, etc.

    The intern should possess a good overall working knowledge of common laboratory methods, and proficiency in writing SOPs or reports.

    The intern should have the ability to successfully perform/complete experiments, keep accurate records and facilitate interpretation and analysis of testing results (including packaging functionality/compatibility testing and full formula stability).

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited university, pursuing a BS degree in a scientific field with an interest in the personal care product or aesthetic industry
    • Must be enrolled in an accredited university during the internship period and graduate between December 2024 - July 2025
    • Must feel comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining high quality standards.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team.
    • Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

    The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

    The salary range is: (minimum: $12,526.56 to maximum: $16,301.70)
