    Small Molecule Analytical R &D Internship Overview

    This internship opportunity is in the Small Molecule Analytical R&D group within Development Sciences, working in close collaboration with Drug Product Development. Under supervision of a senior scientist and advised by the project team, the intern will build fundamental understanding of nitrosamine mitigation strategies for drug products by assessing the effectiveness of various approaches to minimize nitrosamine formation.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Develop and/or apply chemical principles to support a hypothesis driven experimental plan to achieve internship goals

    • Lead the execution of experiments to assess the effectiveness of nitrosamine inhibition strategies in drug product formulations. Experimental work will include quantitative analysis by high resolution LC-MS

    • Interpret scientific results to build big picture understanding of fundamentals governing the effectiveness of inhibition

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing PhD in Chemistry or other closely related field

    • Hands-on experience with quantitative mass spectrometry

    • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Expected graduation date between December 2024 - July 2025

    • Hands-on experience with high resolution (preferably Orbitrap) mass spectrometers

    • Ability to conduct and interpret scientific experiments, providing suggestions for additional experiments

    • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills

    • Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team.

    • Troubleshoot experiments and identify and solve elementary problems in experimental designs, including laboratory experimentation

    • Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
