    Small Molecule Drug Product Development Intern Overview

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

    This internship opportunity is in the Drug Product Development (SMDPD) group within Small Molecule CMC Development department. The SMDPD intern will contribute toward the evaluation of effect of formulation process on free radicals generation and drug product stability. Under supervision of senior research personnel in the group, the individual will have opportunity to:

    • Gain exposure in pharmaceutical product development setting.

    • Experience liquids formulation preparation.

    • Learn instrumental analysis, including the evaluation of instrumental technique(s) for free radicals detection and quantification.

    • Apply knowledge and learnings to assist process understanding and problem-solving.

    This internship position is located in Irvine, CA (On Site).

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Literature research.

    • Formulation sample preparation.

    • Characterization of formulations, pharmaceutical excipients, and other related materials.

    • Data collection, interpretation, organization, and presentation.

    • Deliver a final presentation at the end of the internship.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a MS or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences/ Chemistry/ Chemical engineering/ Materials Science or a related field.

    • Expected graduation date between December 2024 - July 2025 .

    • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ability to conduct and interpret scientific experiments, providing suggestions for additional experiments.

    • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including analysis.

    • Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team.

    • Troubleshoot experiments, identify, and solve elementary problems in experimental designs, including laboratory experimentation.

    • Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.

    • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

    • The salary range is: (minimum: $68,182.40 to maximum: $101,420.80)
