    Tissue Material Science Internship Overview

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.

    The Tissue Materials Sciences group supports the preclinical development and differentiation of implantable biomaterials in support of Allergan Aesthetics’ Medical Device franchises. Under supervision of an experienced scientist in the group, the Intern will primarily support the development of in vitro models (cell-based and/or tissue explant) for use in the evaluation of the Allergan Aesthetics Medical Device products. The intern may also support the development and execution of in vivo models for evaluating biomaterial/tissue interactions.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Apply biological and engineering principles to support the development of new preclinical assays for evaluating the performance of implantable medical devices.
    • Develop and perform experimental designs, protocols, and reports to demonstrate assay feasibility.
    • Supports the execution of in vitro and animal studies to advance the development of implantable medical devices, as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
    • Must be enrolled in university during the internship period and graduate between August 2024 - July 2025
    • Willing to potentially handle animals and perform tissue collection

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Hands-on experience with biomedical engineering research (biomaterials, tissue engineering).
    • Experience conducting and interpreting scientific experiments, particularly with biological models (cell culture or tissue-based).
    • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including statistical analysis.
    • Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or part of a team.

    The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​

    The salary range is: (minimum: $12,526.56 to maximum: $16,301.70)​​
