    Job Description

    Global Facilities Engineering Intern Overview

    Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

    This internship role will consist of an overall design experience. We are a group of architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, BMS controls designers and programmers that design projects to support various facilities in our portfolio. Examples include laboratories, offices, site infrastructure and vivarium / specialty spaces.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Plans and conduct small to medium size projects with design specialty requiring conventional types of plans, investigations and equipment.
    • Coordinates and monitors design activities and reports progress to upper management.
    • Leads design discussions for planning purposes.
    • Gain knowledge of overall industry & AbbVie specifications / standards.
    • Gain knowledge of various building components such as HVAC equipment, electrical distribution systems, building materials, etc.
    • Create project estimates for front end planning and budget purposes.
    • Present to the staff leaders, managers and mentors the achievements of the assigned projects as well as the main experiences gained during the program.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a BA/BS in architecture or mechanical, electrical, BMS controls engineering.
    • Expected graduation date between December 2026 – June 2027
    • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
    • Excellent problem-solving, written and verbal skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with AutoCAD or a form of design software.
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and extra-curricular achievements
