  • Responsibilities

    The Licensing & Acquisitions group actively supports AbbVie’s global business by identifying and executing on strategic pharmaceutical opportunities through in-licensing, out-licensing, co-promotion / co-marketing, and acquisition. The Associate Director, Business Development & Acquisition supports those efforts through development of analytical assessments to determine opportunity viability, communication of findings to senior management and support of negotiations to execute contracts.

    • Responsible for supporting the achievement of overall licensing objectives, strategies and tactics for growth of AbbVie’s pharmaceutical businesses.

    • Collaborates with cross-functional teams comprising of Therapeutic Area leaders and functional leaders to make decisions on business opportunities

    • Partner with AbbVie’s Search and Evaluation and Commercial Evaluation team members as well as key therapeutic area clients to efficiently process opportunities

    • Working together with L&A leadership, support negotiations, lead the creation of associated internal review/approval documents and ensure timelines are met.

    • Work constructively with key stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive efficient decision-making and complete transactions in a timely manner.

    • Contribute to the negotiation process including agreement on key terms and, execution of legal agreements.

    • Actively monitor industry and transaction trends and activities in assigned therapeutic areas in domestic and foreign markets.

    • Bachelor’s Degree Required. Degree in Business, Science or relevant discipline preferred. Master of Business Administration preferred.

    • 5+ years of experience in marketing, consulting and/or new business development with emphasis on licensing and/or strategic transactions. Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry experience required. International experience a plus.

    • Clear understanding of financial analysis as well as objective evaluation of new business opportunities.

    • An ability to assess short and long term market potential on a global basis and make recommendations on plans, programs, goals, and strategies

    • A critical thinker with ability to get to the right level of granularity to balance speed of execution and facilitate optimal decision-making by executive management

    • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience in interacting with executive-level management.

    • This role has flexibility to sit in the Irvine, CA, North Chicago, IL, or Madison, NJ offices.

    This range may be modified in the future.

    • The salary range is (minimum: $126,500 to maximum:$247,000)

    • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive program

    • This job is eligible to participate in our long-term incentive programs
