    Purpose

    The Development Sciences Biologics Drug Product Development organization within AbbVie develops and characterizes drug product formulations and manufacturing processes to provide clinical dosage forms to enable the development of AbbVie’s pipeline. AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated person to join the Biologics CMC Developability Team. Our team utilizes start-of-the-art biophysical and analytical instrumentation to support the early-stage assessment of candidates coming out of the Discovery pipeline with the opportunity to influence the design and development of stable drug product formulation and manufacturing processes for biologics used in clinical trials.

    The primary responsibilities of this role include performing efficient biophysical analytical assessments of candidate molecules in a laboratory environment, documenting results in an electronic notebook system in an organized manner, contributing to cross-functional initiatives in the development of cutting-edge predictive molecular models, and identifying ways to improve existing workflows. The role requires an individual capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, challenging the status quo, and independent problem-solving.

    Responsibilities

    • Demonstrate technical proficiency in multiple analytical techniques and appropriately modify protocols, as required, to suit the changing needs of research/development sciences
    • Independently generate precise, reliable, and reproducible data in a timely manner
    • Place data in proper scientific context by consulting relevant literature
    • Learn and understand new experimental techniques
    • Respond to changing priorities and short lead times for multiple tasks; identify problems and work toward solutions
    • Data interpretation, critically assess collected results and note potential deviations
    • Data analysis, using in-house and self-developed tools to expedite routine workflows and facilitate rapid project turnaround times
    • Troubleshoot issues encountered during experimentation and while using scientific instruments

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent education, with typically 3 or more years’ experience OR Master’s Degree or equivalent education (no additional experience) in the field of chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or related disciplines with industry experience.
    • Prior experience with pharmaceutical biologics and related analytical methods, instruments, and software (HPLC, CE-SDS, icIEF, DSF, DSC, viscometers, Empower, etc.) is required.
    • Experience with coding (Python) would be advantageous.
    • Excellent oral communication skills in a scientific setting as well as sound technical writing and documentation competencies.
    • Must be a strong communicator, team player, curious, and open to suggestions/experimentation for improvement.
