    Our Mission

    The mission of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation is to promote health equity and improve the health outcomes of populations disproportionately affected by serious diseases and conditions, by strengthening community-based health care worker capacity, integrating medical care and community-based supportive services, and mobilizing communities in the fight against disease.

    The Foundation engages partners to develop, execute, evaluate, and promote innovative programs to help patients under two umbrella programs: THE GLOBAL CANCER DISPARITIES INITIATIVE which is active in the US, Brazil, Africa and China, and the CVD AND IMMUNOSCIENCE DISPARITIES INITIATIVE which is active in the US.

    Position Summary

    The Intern will support the Foundation Team in the management of the Global Cancer Disparities Initiative in the US and the Diversity in Clinical Trials Career Development Program. 

    Strategy and Planning Responsibilities

    • Assist in the development of plans, projects and collaborative partnerships which advance the foundation’s philanthropic goals in specified grant programs.
    • Conduct research to provide intelligence and input to assist the development of strategic grant making and signature programs in program focus areas.
    • Participate in strategy development for enhancing employee engagement at all levels.

    Stakeholder Management (internal and external) Responsibilities

    • Support communications for productive engagement with key members of BMS Immuno-oncology leadership, government affairs, corporate responsibility teams, and employees.
    • Help think through opportunities to engage employees in Foundation programs, and communicate the value of the Foundation to the business.   
    • Support the building and maintenance of effective partnerships with key non-profits, government agencies, fellow funders, policy makers and leaders from academia who are engaged in delivering healthcare solutions to vulnerable populations.

    Operational Responsibilities:

    • Supporting effective grant making including comprehensive due diligence, ongoing monitoring and comprehensive measurement of the impact of our philanthropic investments
    • Participate in project management across the range of program components in order to ensure optimal operation, impact and sustainability/legacy of corporate philanthropy initiatives and partnerships. 
      • The main program components are Formative research; Drafting and distributing RFPs, and proposal logging; Communication with applicants and grantees; Grantee bi-annual reporting and Balanced Score Card management; Managing large volumes of inquiries into the Foundation (solicited and unsolicited) and being responsive to all; Organizing annual grantee summit for all grant programs; Manage budget and resources to ensure that strategy and plans are delivered.

    Communications Responsibilities

    • Draft senior level briefings and ongoing reporting and analysis on program progress to continue to engage internal and external stakeholders. 
    • Draft materials for Foundation board meetings
    • Support communications of the innovations and impact of Foundation programs via power point presentations, written articles, social media postings etc.  Develop and execute Social Media strategy for grant programs

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Currently enrolled in advanced degree program in health-related fields such as MPA/MPP, MPH, MS, PharmD

    Desired areas of Competence

    • Knowledge/interest in Oncology, Immunology, Cardiovascular disease, Public Health
    • Knowledge/interest in implementation science, health systems strengthening, operational and outcomes research
    • Strong interest in health equity and improving health outcomes
