    SENIOR ASSOCIATE I - BIOMANUFACTURING, UPSTREAM

    The Upstream process development team is responsible for the development and implementation of mammalian cell culture upstream processing methodologies and analytical procedures that can be successfully transferred to cGMP manufacturing to generate therapeutic proteins for human clinical trials.

    This is a full time position and the shift is Sunday-Wednesday, 2:00 pm - 12:00 am.

    Our new, state of the art Madison, WI facility, with expanded mammalian cell line engineering and biomanufacturing capabilities utilizing single-use systems, offers increased flexibility and manufacturing scale to support our customers’ growth. We offer a broad range of integrated formulation and analytical services to solve your most difficult development challenges in Biologics.

    THE ROLE:

    This position requires a variety of skills necessary for a cGMP Biomanufacturing environment. You will apply knowledge in mammalian cell culture techniques and other scientific disciplines to formulate scientific hypotheses and experiment designs to address project and department goals and work with team members in performing varied laboratory procedures and experiments that support external client and internal client projects. As part of the Upstream process development team, you’ll work with other teams performing scientific work involving cell bank vial thaws, seed train scale-up, production bioreactor operations, cell culture analytical methods, and technology transfer to cGMP manufacturing. Project experiments may require the application of platform methods involving mammalian cell culture process variables. The position is expected to follow detailed instructions and established procedures with minimal supervision.

    • Coordinate with supervisor to prioritize and schedule activities to meet deadlines

    • Perform aseptic techniques within in a clean room environment

    • Operate biomanufacturing equipment such as incubators, bioreactors (SUB), filtration equipment and controlled-rate freezers

    • Perform small- and large-scale cell culture production of mammalian cell lines such as cell counting, cell passaging, culture metabolite analysis and cell cryopreservation activities

    • Have knowledge of standard bioreactor cascading controllers, pH controller loop functionality, and DO controller loop functionality

    THE CANDIDATE:

    EDUCATION:

    • M.S. / M.A. in Biotechnology, or related field with 1+ years of experience in related work, OR

    • B.S. / B.A. in Biotechnology, or related field with 2+ years of experience in related work, OR

    • Associates Degree / Certificate / Diploma in laboratory science with 4+ years of experience in related laboratory work, OR

    • High School Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in related laboratory work

    EXPERIENCE:

    Required

    • Clean room, aseptic technique, and / or general lab equipment experience

    • Knowledge of cGMP (Good Manufacturing Practices, GDP (Good Documentation Practices) and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices)

    • Ability to follow standard operating procedures

    • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting biomanufacturing-related equipment

    Preferred

    • Experience with SUBs, SUMs, Unicorn and/or Delta V software

    • Experience with Trackwise, ComplianceWire or other electronic tracking software
