    Position Summary

    We are seeking a highly motivated Co-op student to join our Discovery Immunology Team at Cambridge, MA. This position provides the opportunity to learn basic drug discovery principles within the area of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases with hands on learning in the laboratory. The candidate will gain experience in human and mouse immune cell culture and assay development to support early discovery proof-of-concept studies and optimization of biologics for the treatment of autoimmune disorders. The co-op student will be exposed to a variety of laboratory techniques that are commonly used in immunology drug discovery, in addition to receiving coaching in data analysis and interpretation, critical thinking, and the creation and delivery of effective presentations to small teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain mammalian cell lines in culture for use in a variety of experimental systems
    • Isolation of primary cells from human blood and mouse blood/tissues
    • Perform primary cell culture experiments including immune cell killing assays and barrier function assays
    • Perform basic laboratory techniques including MSD, ELISA, PCR and Western Blot
    • Characterize the immune response in cell culture assays or from in vivo mouse models including analysis of cytokine/chemokine secretion, antibody secretion, live cell imaging, and flow cytometry analysis
    • Analyze and report experimental findings and present work at team meetings
    • Additional technical opportunities are possible dependent on project needs

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Enrollment in University Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program studying relevant scientific discipline with at least two (2) years of cell biology and/or molecular biology course work.
    • Minimum three (3) semesters of laboratory course work
    • Prior relevant work experience in mammalian tissue culture (minimum 1 year) preferred
    • Strong academic record ≥ 3.0 GPA
    • Able to commit to a minimum of 6 months of continuous full-time employment
    • Able to work independently as well as in a multi-discipline team environment.
    • Ability to multi-task, plan & manage time and schedule.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to embrace a culture of continuous learning and improvement, increasing technical skill base and disease biology expertise.
